SAVE THE BUNNIES!
When I woke up Wednesday morning I was expecting a normal day...work at the offiBlockquotece, come home, work on jewelry, cook dinner...the usual. Until I found the bunnies. Three of them all cuddled up in a little ball!

We thought they might be possums so we called AWARE (Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort) and they said they are actually baby rabbits! We learned that the Mom will come and feed them once a day, at night, for 3-4 weeks and then they would eventually hop off! There eyes were still closed and their ears are still back...indicating that they are less than 10 days old. She said we could pick them up and hold them, that it would be perfectly safe for us and them...and to just cover them back up...but we didn't touch them..they were just so tiny. So we just admired them from afar! That didn't last long. I kept thinking about them and the next day at work I came home for lunch and went right to the backyard to check on them. I just HAD to pick one up...and my heart immediately melted.

It was so soft and warm! I mean...look at those ears and that little tail!!

Carefully, I put the baby back with the other two and covered them back up. I couldn't wait to check on them every few days just to see how they are doing. When I got off of work that day...it was raining...hard...I mean it was POURING. As I was driving I thought "oh my goodness...the bunnies!" When I pulled in the driveway I ran in the pouring rain straight to the back yard (in heels!) and found that most of the yard was a big pool of water.

When I got to the rabbits nest, it was completely full of water. I could see their little heads under the water and I just knew they weren't going to be alive. But when I scooped them up, they were breathing! Now I know that the best thing for any animal is to leave them in their environment and just to let them be...but I could not walk away with them under the water. So I brought them inside.

I immediately called AWARE back to see what to do and they gave me the name of an animal rehabilitator...which is really just a normal person doing phenomenal things in their home to save wild animals. James was amazing. He suggested that I keep them warm in a small box until it stopped raining, go out and try to get as much water as I could out of the hole and put them back in it and cover them up. So that is what I did. We were hoping that the Mom would return and feed them that night. I was to call James in the morning and let him know if she came back and if she didn't he said he would come and get them. Well...in the morning, the three strategically placed leaves on top of the nest had not moved. And it was supposed to rain ALL day. So I brought them back in...again. I had to go to work so I put them in a safe place and called James back. He said that if I wanted, he would meet me that night and come and get them, so I told him I would call him back when I got off of work. I knew that I couldn't take on trying to care for them myself, but I really wanted them to be able to return to the nest and have their Mom come back. During my lunch break...I ran to Petco and bought the suggested formula and tried to feed them. Um..that didn't really work out too well. I got maybe four drops of food in each of them. Apparently, they are extremely difficult to feed...you practically have to force them to eat. Determined to not give up, James and I agreed that I would try to put them back in the nest for one more night to see if the Mom would come back.

And this morning...I found that SHE HAD COME BACK!! The leaves had been moved and their little bellies were all full. I was so excited.

So...it seems to have worked out perfectly. For now, they are safe, full and happy...and hopefully the Mom will continue to return! Now I just have to stop worrying about them and let nature run its course! I love bunnies.

ANTIQUE MARKET
I got a chance to go to the antique market that is in town once a month and thought I would share a couple of things that caught my eye! The prettiest booth I saw was filled with gorgeous crystal chandeliers (Anthropologie style) and I practically ran up to the booth and immediately took out my camera to take a picture...and I got....um...yelled at! The woman who owned the booth sternly told me that because she designed each chandelier herself, she does not allow photos to be taken. I thought this was so strange. I completely understand the principle of not wanting photographs taken of your art for fear of the designs being copied....but how many people do you know make chandeliers? Like a child that just got their hand smacked, I obediently turned my camera off and walked away. Anyway, here are a few other things that I really liked:
This sweet little set of drawers with a birdcage on top...
This really great vintage cash register...

These great old cameras...

These fabulous opera glasses from France...

and this charming old typewriter...

The only thing I walked away with were these pretty bottles. I don't know what it is with me and glass jars, bottles or inkwells...I love them! They will look great next to my growing collection of vintage Ball jars! The best part...they were $1 a piece!

I can't believe tomorrow is Monday already. It feels like I just walked out of the office a couple of hours ago and already it is time to go back! I hope you all have a great week!

NEW PENDANTS

You don't need to be on a path to salvation to wear these necklaces, you must only be able to recognize true beauty! I just finished these two necklaces up and I am in love with them! The brown background I use normally for pictures just didn't do these colorful necklaces justice...so I am experimenting! I think the colorful background pictured compliment the colors and feel of the necklaces...I just worry that it might be too busy and take the focus away from the necklaces. What do you think?

A BIT OF SPARKLE
My newest creations! These shimmering Quartz pendants are absolutely mesmerizing. I was so excited when I picked up these beatiful stones on a recent trip to a bead store that I hadn't visited in a long time. They are just so pretty and I love the way the delicate Gold chains pick up the golden sparkles in the stones!

It is going to be tough listing these in my shop, I almost want to keep them all to myself! :)

STUDIO MAKEOVER UPDATE {DESK}

About a year ago, Jan from Jannypie Crafts blogged about a desk that she had built herself. The blog post included pictures of her old desk, her drawing for the one she planned to build, pictures of the finished desk...and even a supply list! I have been wanting to build my own since then (the ugly desk with the tablecloth on it was just not cutting it) and I finally did it...with a few modifications!
This is the desk Jan built...so cool!

*picture taken from Jannypies' blog post from October 2008

I think she did such a good job. It is such a great workspace and I loved that it is a corner desk and thought the table legs used for support on one side was such a cool idea. When planning my desk I realized that my room didn't have sufficient space to allow for a corner desk (I was so bummed!) but I loved still loved the desk because of all of the storage and elevated height of the desktop. The first step was to put together the storage unit cubicles...

Once the cubes were put together I used a sheet of MDF cut down to a 6 x 3 piece for the desk top and plan on using the rest for shelves (the paint is drying on them now!). The desktop was then screwed into the cubes and I used an oil based primer (which was suggested for MDF rather than a waterbased) and a coat of plain white satin finish pain on the MDF.

Above is the finished desk...I LOVE IT!!! I am in the process of priming and painting the shelves (from the excess MDF) and plan on hanging them above the desk. I can't wait until the paint on the desk is dry, the shelves are hung and I can start putting all of my things back on the desk. This desk allows for so much storage and I am excited that my room will be MUCH more organized after everything is done! Yay! More pictures to come!
